Cliché?
I've been grappling a bit with my design for this blog.
I'd like to share with you my process of how it want along.
Generally, I favor a dark and/or tech aesthetic. I like greys. Bold colors. Reds. Yellows. Cyberpunk type stuff. Now, my last trip to Iceland was drenched in nocturne. I was only there for 3 days. Daylight lasted perhaps 5 hours. I hardly saw it; I generally went to bed around 8am -- just as the sun was peeking out. So: my typical visual preoccupations, when synced with my only memories of Iceland, would have suggested a dark, mysterious, neverending-winter design for the site.
But! This time, I will see virtually no night (if you're slow: hence the name of the site). I want this experience to be--dare I say?--happy? Well, the last one was, too. But... perhaps less... brooding.
I designed the site as such. Brightness all over. The colors of water to invoke the Blue Lagoon. And so on. Why celebrate the absence of shadow with a barrage of black?
But now I wonder if too many people will stop and say: "Oh! Silly ignorant boy! He think's because it's called Iceland that it is all ice and snow. How cliché!"
To those people: no.
